This Week at Calvin 1/25/23

Calvin Church, 326 7th St SE, welcomes all who are looking for a church family to worship, learn and
fellowship with us. Worship begins at 10:00 AM. This Sunday Pastor Brian is leading worship in Sheldon.
Mr. Matt Dengler will be leading our worship this Sunday. Miriam Hector will accompany the hymns:
“As the Deer”, “My God, How Wonderful You Are”, and “We Receive Your Blessing.” The prelude will be
an arrangement of “As The Deer” by Marilyn Ham. For the offertory, Miriam will play an arrangement of
“Let Everything That Has Breath Praise the Lord” by Matt Redman. After the offertory, the children will
be dismissed for Children’s Worship.
Sunday School classes for all ages resume this Sunday at 9:00 am. The Adult Sunday School class is
beginning a DVD series on the Muslim religion and how it is different from Christianity. Come ready to
learn and study God’s Word.
Busy Bags for little children can be found in the foyer. Be sure to make use of them for your kids.
The Afternoon Bible study will meet again on February 1 at 1:30 PM. Lyn Bulthuis will lead our study
from 2 Corinthians. We study, read the Word, pray for concerns, have coffee and a partake in a
delicious dessert.
The church is open every morning from 10 to noon. Books from the library or CDs of past services can
be picked up at this time. All are welcomed to use the sanctuary as a place for prayer for yourselves and
family, our church, community, and country. If you have any prayer requests and concerns you like

This Week at Calvin 1/19/23

Sunday, December 18th, Calvin CRC welcomes all to a time that has been set aside for the public
worship of God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit! Worship begins at 10 AM at 326 7t St SE, Le Mars.
Before worship, all are invited to study God’s Word at 9:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall. Classes for all
ages is provided. This Sunday, the Adult class meets for prayer for the needs of our church and
community. All are welcomed to join in prayer.
This Sunday Calvin celebrates communion. As we prepare to celebrate communion, we ask God for the
proper spirit in which to celebrate the sacrament.
As is tradition, on communion Sundays we urge our members to contribute to the Christian Needs
Ministry. The January Needs include juice, pancake mix, syrup, ketchup chili beans, canned tomatoes,
rice, shampoo, bar soap, toilet paper. Place items in the blue barrel in narthex.
A Special Offering is designated for Hope Haven.
Pastor Brian Hofman is using Mattheew 5: 1-12 (The Beatitudes) as his text this Sunday. The All For Him
praise team leads the songs of praise. They will be: “Here I Am to Worship”, “What a Beautiful Name”,
“Blest Are They”, and “Into My Heart.” During communion the praise team will sing “I Am the Bread”
and “The King of Love”.
The Evening Women’s Bible Study Group plans to meet January 25st at 6:30 in the church.
Calvin is leading worship services at the local nursing homes. This week Wednesday they will go to
PrimeLiving and Accura Health Care. We love worshiping with our friends there, singing favorite hymns,
praying together, and hearing Pastor Brian bring the Word and blessing on all in attendance.

fellowship with us. Worship begins at 10:00 AM. This Sunday we continue celebrating Epiphany when
the wise men visit the baby Jesus. Pastor Brian Hofman returns to the pulpit following vacation. His
message is based on Matthew 2: 1 – 12. The All For Him praise team will lead the songs of praise. They
are: “Offering (Christmas version),” “Emmanuel, Emmanuel,” “From a Distant Home”, “As with Gladness
Men of Old,” and “One Small Child”.
Sunday School classes for all ages resume this Sunday. Come ready to learn and study God’s Word.

On Saturday, January 14, there will be a one-day leadership workshop at Bethel CRC in Sioux Center.
The event runs from 8:30 – 3:00.

This Week at Calvin 12/27/22

Happy New Year from Calvin Christian Reformed Church, 326 7th St SE. On New Year’s Day, at 10:00 AM,
we worship our newborn King Calvin welcomes all those looking for a church home to visit and join us
in worship of our prophesied Christ. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
We ring in the New Year with thankfulness for God’s provision in the year past and the hope for the
future. Mr. Matt Wentz will lead Calvin in worship this Sunday.
Inez Hoogeveen is playing the prelude “Let All Things Now Living” on the grand piano. She will also
accompany the hymns: “O God Our Help in Ages Past,” “Another Year is Dawning”, Infant Holy, Infant
Lowly”, “I Heard The Bells on Christmas Day”, “Go Tell It On the Mountain.”
Sunday School classes will take a break for the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s.
The Wednesday Evening Women’s Bible Study will be starting a new DV series in January, the 2nd and
4th weeks, at 6:30 PM. They will be studying “Twelve More Women of the Bible”. If you are interested in

This Week at Calvin 12/20/2022

Merry Christmas from Calvin Christian Reformed Church, 326 7th St SE. On Christmas Day at 10:00 AM
we worship our newborn King. We also light the Christ candle, the center white candle of the Advent
Wreath. Jesus is the light of the world. Calvin welcomes all those looking for a church home to visit and
join us in worship of our prophesied Christ.
Christmas Eve will be celebrated at 5:00 PM with a dramatic Christmas service written to help children
understand how the whole narrative of Scripture points to Christ. Children and adults will act out the
nativity. Christmas carols are interspersed through out the drama. Ava Klemme will play her flute to
accompany some of the carols. It all concludes with the candles being lit from the Christ candle lighting
all participants’ candles as they gather around the sanctuary to the singing of Silent Night.
Christmas morning includes more Christmas Carols including “Good Christian Friends”, “O Come All Ye
Faithful”, “How Great Our Joy”, and “Go Tell It on the Mountain”. During the offertory, Karin, Kari, and
Trina Swanson will sing and play “O Holy Night.”
Sunday School classes will take a break for the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s.

Pastor Brian Hofman continues his Advent sermons on 2nd Thessalonians. This Sunday his text is from 2
Thessalonians 3: 6 – 18. The 4th Advent Candle of Peace will be lit. The songs of praise will be: “Angels
from the Realms of Glory”, “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing”, “You Are Holy (Prince of Peace)”, and “Sing
to the King.” The Song of Response is “What Feast of Love” just prior to communion. Miriam Hector
will provide the prelude and the accompaniment of hymns on piano and organ.
The Afternoon Women’s Bible Study Group plans to meet December 21st to fill bags of goodies for the
children.
A Dramatic Christmas Eve will be held at 5:00 PM. The service was written to help children understand
how the whole narrative of Scripture points to Christ. We culminate with the beautiful candle lighting
around the sanctuary.
Christmas Morning will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Please plan to join us with your family.

Calvin Christian Reformed Church, 326 7 th St SE, welcomes all those looking for a church home to visit
and join us in worship of our prophesied Christ. This Sunday, the third Sunday of Advent, we think about
the joy that Christ gives us. May our souls rejoice like the shepherds’ as we worship this Sunday.. We
light the joy candle, the pink candle.
Education classes for all ages are held at 9:00 AM. Each class will be able to choose items from the
World Renew Gift Catalog which includes animals, seeds, tools, and other items that will benefit needy
villages.
Worship begins at 10 AM in the sanctuary. Pastor Brian Hofman will preach through 2 Thessalonians, a
short book which focuses us on the looking forward to Christ’s second coming part of Advent. This
Sunday’s text is 2 Thessalonians 3: 1-5. Miriam Hector will provide the prelude. The All For Him praise
team leads the singing of “While Shepherds Watch Their Flocks By Night”, “On Christmas Night”, and
“Ahead of Us, A Race to Run”. We conclude the service singing “We Will Dance on the Streets That are
Golden.” Lyn Bulthuis will sing “There’s A Song in the Air” for the Offertory.
This Sunday Calvin will be caroling at the area Nursing Homes. Meet at the church at 2:40 to carpool.
We will return to church at approximately 5:30 where we can all enjoy a soup supper. Let’s all plan to
share Joy to others.
Looking ahead, Calvin will be having a Dramatic Christmas Eve service with readers, actors, and candle
lighting at 5:00 PM.
Make plans to also join us on Christmas Morning, 10:00 AM, to celebrate Christ’s birth.
Poinsettias need to be purchased by this Sunday.

Tess Hofman. This is a new ministry for Calvin. We are so excited to offer this opportunity.

This Week at Calvin 11-28-21

Calvin Church, 326 7 th St SE, welcomes all who are looking for a church family to worship, learn and
fellowship with us. Worship begins at 10:00 AM with Miriam Hector providing a prelude. Brian
Hofman’s message will center on Psalm 106 where we declare God’s faithfulness in keeping His
promises and delivering His people. The All For Him praise team will lead the singing of “Everlasting
God”, “Rejoice O Pure In Heart,” “His Mercy is More”, and “Thank You Lord for Saving My Soul.”
This Sunday we celebrate the sacrament of Communion. We need to prepare our hearts and ask God for
the proper spirit in which to celebrate the sacrament. As is custom on Communion Sundays, we donate
to the Christian Needs Center. November needs: Pancake mix, syrup, canned fruit, toilet paper and
shampoo. These can be placed in the blue barrel in the narthex. A Special Offering is designated to the
Christian Needs Center
At 9:00 AM, Sunday, there are Education Classes for all ages. Teachers are preparing valuable lessons
for us all. Come and learn together
This Wednesday, 6:30 PM a Thanksgiving Eve Worship Service will be held. An offering will be taken for
the Center for Financial Education.
Last Sunday there were 119 Operation Christmas Child boxes filled to the brim. Thank you to all who
participated.
Mark your calendars for the Thanksgiving Supper for the Calvin Family, November 21 at 5:00 PM.
