Calvin Church, 326 7 th St SE, welcomes all who are looking for a church family to worship, learn and
fellowship with us. Worship begins at 10:00 AM with the Fourth Sunday of Advent. The lighting of the
Advent Candles centers around the passage: “For Unto Us A Child is Born”. The fourth candle is “Prince
of Peace”. For Advent Pastor Brian Hofman has chosen the Psalms of lament, songs and prayers that
cry out for God to act and help but also surprisingly express trust in God while waiting. This week’s text
is Psalm 142. The hymns chosen to sing are: “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing”, “In Christ Alone”, and
“Emmanuel”.
At 9:00 AM, Sunday, there are Education Classes for all ages. Each class is picking out gifts for children
of other countries through World Renew. The youth are practicing for the Christmas Eve service.
This Sunday we celebrate Communion. Prepare your hearts to partake in this blessed sacrament. This
week is also the time we collect items for the Christian Needs Center. Their needs include granola bars;
pudding/jello; hamburger helper; juice; soap and toothpaste. The Special Offering is for the Benevolent
Fund.
The Christmas caroling party will be the evening of December 19 th . We are meeting at church at 3 pm
for those that want to carol. We are hoping to be able to carol at the nursing homes by then. Then head
back to church at 5:30 for tavern, chips, ice cream sundaes and hot chocolate, coffee, or lemonade.
Calvin is planning a Christmas Eve Candle Lighting Service at 5:00 P.M. Mark your calendars to join us
with your family that are home. Hear the Christmas story and sing the carols.
