This Week at Calvin 7/12/23

Calvin Church, 326 7 th St SE, welcomes all who are looking for a church family to worship, learn and
fellowship with us. Worship begins at 10:00 AM. Pastor Brian Hofman will lead us in worship. Miriam
Hector will provide the prelude and accompany the hymns of: “God is Here”, “Refuge and Rock”, “Thy
Word”, “The Battle Belongs to the Lord”, and “You Are My King”.
Pastor Hofman has begun a series of sermons on the 1 st book of Samuel. This Sunday’s text is Samuel
6:1-7:1.
This Sunday Calvin will be celebrating communion. As we prepare to celebrate communion, we ask God
for the proper spirit in which to celebrate the sacrament that we may repent sincerely of all sin and that
by it we shall be spiritually revived, and strengthened in faith, hope, and love through Christ our Lord.
This Sunday we will receive a special offering for ReFrame Ministries. ReFrame Ministries is formerly
Back to God Ministries International. The English programs include Today; Family Fire; Groundwork;
Think Christian an online magazine; Kids Corner; and Church Juice a website for church leaders.
A library has been set up in the basement. You are welcome to check out any of the titles you find
there.
A recap of VBS this summer. We had a Stellar group of 33 children learning how to shine Jesus’ Light.
They raised $307.00 for Her Health in Le Mars.
At 2:00 PM our church has opened its doors to the Chuukees Church family in our community. We
welcome them to worship God in our sanctuary.

This Week at Calvin 6/20/23

Hector will lead all into worship with a prelude on the grand piano. The hymns will be led by the All For
Him Praise Team. They are: “Open the Eyes of My Heart Lord”, “Goodness of God”, “Speak, O Lord”,
and “Here I Am, Lord”.
Pastor Hofman has begun a new series of sermons on the 1 st book of Samuel. This Sunday’s text is
Samuel 3:1-4:1a. The Lord calls Samuel. He responds, “Here I am, Lord. Speak for your servant is
listening.”
At 2:00 PM our church has opened its doors to the Chuukees Church family in our community. We
welcome them to worship God in our sanctuary.
This Sunday, June 25 th , we have invited the Chuukese congregation to share a noon luncheon with us.
Meat and potatoes will be provided. We are asking Calvin members to bring a salad or dessert to share
with our guests.
This week was VBS! Thank you to all who attended and helped in any way to make this a beautiful,
memorable event. Next week we’ll announce the offering winners. This year’s theme was STELLAR:
SHINE JESUS LIGHT. We began each night with a meal. STELLAR rocketed kids on an out-of-this world
adventure that’s light years of faith-building. They prepared for the day’s adventure by singing fun
songs at Sing & Play Blast Off. They experience God’s Word reinforced throughout each station, each
day. They played All-Star Games and Closed with a Cosmic Closing.

Samuel 2:12-36. This Sunday Calvin will be celebrating communion.
At 2:00 PM our church has opened its doors to the Chuukees Church family in our community. We
welcome them to worship God in our sanctuary.
Next week is VBS! Do not hesitate to join us. Children ages 3 through entering 6 th grade are welcome to
attend. Older people are welcome to be helpers. Each evening begins with a meal.
Vacation Bible School has been set for June 19 – 22; 5:30 – 8:00 PM. This year’s theme is STELLAR:
SHINE JESUS LIGHT. We’ll begin each night with a meal. STELLAR rockets kids on an out-of-this world
adventure that’s light years of faith-building fun.

are welcome to attend.

This Sunday we will celebrate Communion. Just a reminder, everyone is encouraged o bring items for
the Christian Needs Center.
After the offertory, the children come forward to visit with Pastor Wick and then will be dismissed for
Children’s Worship.
Sunday School classes for all ages are available this Sunday at 9:00 am. The Adult Sunday School class is
meeting this week as they watch the DVD “Counter Culture” by David Platt.
