This Week at Calvin 2/14/24

News from CCRC – Calvin Christian Reformed Church “A Caring Church, Reaching Community”!
Our church building is located at 326 7 th St SE. This week our members Pete and Mary Attema joined
Hope Haven in La Pax, Mexico building and distributing pediatric wheelchairs to disabled children.
Blessings on them and their team as they serve and reach out to our neighbors for Christ. Many other
members give rides, make food, give calls, ministering to each other and our neighbors through caring
relationships.
Sunday School classes for all ages begins at 9:00 AM.
Worship begins at 10 AM on Sunday. Pastor Brian Hofman returns to the pulpit this week with another
sign of Jesus from the book of John 9: 1-41, where Jesus heals a man born blind.
This week we celebrate communion.
The Special Offering for February is for the Gospel Mission in Sioux City. The Gospel Mission is a
nonprofit, non-denominational Christian ministry dedicated to serving the homeless in Siouxland. Don’t
forget to donate to The Table, too. The Table is a community food supply outlet for the area. They
need shampoo & conditioner, dish soap, laundry soap, canned fruit, cereal & hot cereal, soup, ketchup
& mustard. Items are collected in the blue barrel in the narthex.
The Children are welcomed up front to visit with Pastor Brian for an introduction to the morning’s text.
They will then be dismissed to Children’s Worship.
Wednesday evening the Women’s Bible Study has just started a new study on Jacob. They are studying
the book God Never Gives Up on You by Max Lucado. They meet at 6:30 pm.

Worship begins at 10 AM on Sunday. Mr. Dan Tracy will lead us in worship. The All For Him praise team
will lead the songs of praise. They are “God Is Great”, “Let the Praises Ring”, and “God You Reign,”
“Flawless”, “Good Good Father”, and “The Blessing”.
The Special Offering for February is for the Gospel Mission in Sioux City. Don’t forget to donate to The
Table, too. Items are collected in the blue barrel in the narthex.
The Children are welcomed up front to visit with Dan for an introduction to the morning’s text. They will
then be dismissed to Children’s Worship led by Kaitlyn Visscher.
This coming week the Afternoon Women’s Bible Study will meet on Wednesday at 1:30 PM. Lyn
Bulthuis will lead the last study on Heaven by Randy Alcorn. If you are interested, there are books in the
secretary’s office.
Wednesday evening the Women’s Bible Study has just started a new study on Jacob. They are studying
the book God Never Gives Up on You by Max Lucado. They meet at 6:30 pm.

and joyful worship, sound Biblical preaching, an inspiring music ministry, and continual prayer.

This Sunday his text is John 6: 16 – 21 when Jesus walks on water.
Sunday School classes for all ages begins at 9:00 AM.
Worship begins at 10 AM on Sunday. The songs of praise will be “Great is the Lord”, “Ten Thousand
Reasons”, and “I Am Thine, O Lord,” “Jesus Shall Reign”, and “Soon and Very Soon”.
The February is for the Gospel Mission in Sioux City. Don’t forget to donate to The Table. Items are
collected in the blue barrel in the narthex.
The Children are welcomed up front to visit with Pastor for an introduction to the morning’s text. They
will then be dismissed to Children’s Worship led by Kaitlyn Visscher.

Happy Epiphany from Calvin Christian Reformed Church!
This month Pastor Brian Hofman will preach through the seven signs (miracles) in the book of John.
This Sunday his text is John 6:1-15 when Jesus feeds the five thousand.
Sunday School classes resume at 9:00 AM.
Worship begins at 10 AM on Sunday at 326 7 th St SE. The songs of praise will be “Be Still, fpr the
Presence”, “Everlasting God”, and “Who You Say I Am, ” “All Who Hunger Gather Gladly,”, and “We
Receive You Blessing”. The music will be led by the All For Him Praise Team. They are Mary Fedders, Lyn
Bulthuis, Patrick Visscher, Bob Hughes, Ron De Kok, Jim Viet, Miriam, and Dave Hector.
After the offertory, children are welcomed up front to visit with Pastor for an introduction to the
morning’s text. They will then be dismissed to Children’s Worship led by Kaitlyn Visscher.
Following the morning service, a Special Gathering will be held. We’ll have a chance to talk about a few
questions and comments celebrating Calvin’s 70 th Years of existence. Pastor is baking chocolate chip
cookies to serve with coffee.
Calvin will be leading services on Wednesday, January 31 at Prime Living (9:30), Accura Heath (10:00).
We welcome all residents to join us for singing favorite hymns, hearing The Word led by Pastor Brian
Hofman, join in prayer together, and receive God’s blessing.
We welcome the Lifewise Academy back this week to meet on Wednesday and Friday afternoons in our
facilities.
The Chuukese worship at 2:00 PM on Sundays.

Happy New Year from Calvin CRC!

This Sunday his text is John 5: 1 – 18 when Jesus heals the man at the pool
Sunday School classes resume at 9:00 AM.
Worship begins at 10 AM on Sunday at 326 7 th St SE. Communion will be celerated. The songs of praise
will be “Joyful, Joyful We Adore You”, “Oh, For a Thousand Tongues to Sing”, and “What Feast of Love,”
“Alleluia”, “Table of Plenty”, and “Shine, Jesus, Shine”.
The January Special Offering is for the Le Mars Backpack program. The Backpack food program provides
nutritious, non-perishable, easy-to-prepare food to children to ensure they get enough food on
weekends and holidays to avoid hunger when they can’t depend on school meals. Don’t forget to
donate to The Table.
After the offertory, children are welcomed up front to visit with Pastor for an introduction to the
morning’s text. They will then be dismissed to Children’s Worship led by Tessa Hofman.
Following the morning service, a Congregational Meeting will be held to approve the 2024 Budget.
This coming week the Afternoon Women’s Bible Study will meet on Wednesday at 1:30 PM. Lyn
Bulthuis will lead a new study of Randy Acorn’s book Heaven. You are welcomed to join us.
Wednesday evening at 6:30 PM, they begin a new study about Jacob. They will be studying the book
“God Never Gives Up on You” by Max Lucado.
On the 24 th Calvin leads worship at the Pride Home (9:30), Brentwood (10), and Park Place Estates
(10:30).

This Week at Calvin 1/2/2024

Happy New Year from Calvin CRC! We begin this year with Epiphany when God incarnate as Jesus Christ
revealed his divinity to the Magi who visited young Jesus.
We welcome Pastor Brian Hofman back from vacation. This month he will preach through the seven
signs (miracles) in the book of John. This Sunday his text is John 2:1-12 when he turns water into wine.
Sunday School classes resume at 9:00 AM. The classes will be able to spend $1,500.00 for the children
of World Renew Christmas.
Worship begins at 10 AM on Sunday at 326 7 th St SE. The prelude will be “Twinkle, Twinkle”, “Do You
See What I See?”, and “Star of the East.” Hymns of praise will include: “Beautiful Savior”, “As with
Gladness Men of Old”, “We Three Kings”, “Our God”, and “Arise, Shine for Your Light is Come.”

This Week at Calvin 12/27/23

On New Year’s Eve Morning, Calvin Church, 326 7 th St SE, welcomes all to a special service of Faith and
God’s Faithfulness as summarized in the Apostles’ Creed. This service connects the creed to different
aspects of the Christian year. Worship begins at 10:00 AM with a prelude and offertory by Makayla
and Jonah Ver Mulm on the saxophone and trombone. Songs representing creation (How Great Thou
Art), Advent ( O Little Town of Bethlehem), Christmas , Epiphany (Arise, Your Light is Come!), Lent (In
Christ Alone), Easter (See, What a Morning), Ascension (Crown Him with Many Crowns), Pentecost
(Wonderful, Merciful Savior), Communion of the Saints, forgiveness of sins, and life everlasting (Sing To
the King)will be sung throughout the service.
Pastor Brian Hofman and his family are on vacation. Mr. Matt Dengler will lead our service with the
readings, scripture, prayer, and a short message.
Special offering this month is World Renew.
We praise God for His Faithfulness to each one of us. “His mercies begin afresh each morning.”
Lamentations 3: 22-23. We pray for your encouragement to live one’s faith boldly in everyday life!
This week there will be no Sunday School and no women’s Bible Study.

welcomes LifeWise Academy to our facilities.

This Week at Calvin 12/20/2023

On Christmas Eve Morning, Calvin Church, 326 7 th St SE, welcomes all to The Unexpected Gift. Sunday
School classes for all ages begin at 9:00 AM. Worship begins at 10:00 AM celebrating the Fourth Week
of Advent with the Patrick and Kaitlyn Visscher family lighting the candle of joy. This flame represents
the radiant joy that fills our hearts as we anticipate the birth of Jesus. Just as this small light can fill a
dark room, may the joy of Christ illumine our lives and bring hope to those around us. Children will show
us this joy as Ava and Ella Klemme play the prelude on their flute and piano. The All For Him praise team
will lead the singing of songs of Joy which include: “O Come All Ye Faithful” with Patrick on the trumpet,
“The Birthday of a King,” “What Child is This?” With Ava on flute, “Hope Was Born This Night”, and
concluding with the joyous “Hallelujah Chorus”. The children will fill our hearts with joy as they sing
“God is So Good/God Sent His Son/Jesus is Born” and “Away in a Manger.” Many readers will help us
hear the Christmas story anew and encounter a God who continues to surprise each of us.
Pastor Brian Hofman’s message will center on John 1: 1-5, 10-14, 16-18.

Calvin Church, 326 7 th St SE, welcomes all who are looking for a church family to worship, learn and
fellowship with us. Sunday School classes for all ages begin at 9:00 AM. Worship begins at 10:00 AM
celebrating the Third Week of Advent lighting the candle of love. This flame represents the incredible
love that God pours into our lives and calls us to share with others. Songs of love include: “Come Thou
Long Expected Jesus”, “Angels From the Realms of Glory,” “Infant Holy, Infant Lowly”, “Hark! The Herald
Angels Sing”, and “Joy to the World”. Jill Bomgaars will provide service music on her euphonium
accompanied by Miriam Hector on the organ. Thank you, Jill.
Pastor Brian Hofman will be doing a Classical Appointment at Hawarden CRC this Sunday. Mr. Dan
Tracey from Orange City will us in worship. We welcome him to our pulpit.
After the offertory, the children are dismissed to Children’s Worship led by Kaitlyn Visscher.
This month’s Special Offering is for World Renew. The Sunday School class will be designating special
items to purchase with their year’s offerings. Come to be a part of this exciting decision. World Renew
is the relief and development arm of the Christian Reformed Church.

Calvin Church, 326 7th St SE, welcomes all who are looking for a church family to worship, learn and
fellowship with us. Sunday School classes for all ages begin at 9:00 AM. Worship begins at 10:00 AM
celebrating the Second Week of Advent lighting the candle of peace. Just as this light illuminates the
darkness, may the peace of Christ shine brightly in our lives, guiding our steps and bringing hope to the
world. Songs of Peace include: “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”, “You Are Holy (Prince of Peace)” “He
Shall Reign Forevermore”, and “Emmanuel”.
Pastor Brian Hofman’s text for this Sunday is Isaiah 12: 1-6; “Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and
be not afraid.”
After the offertory, the children meet with Pastor Brian for an interesting Children’s Sermon. Then they
are dismissed to Children’s Worship led by Tessa Hofman.
Sunday we also celebrate communion. As is tradition we encourage members to contribute to The
Table. Place items in the blue barrel in the narthex. This Sunday we have a special offering for World
Renew.
This week Calvin has the pleasure of leading worship services at the Prime Living (9:30), and Accura
(10:00).
A Lifewise Christmas Tree is in the foyer. On it are items you can purchase to support LifeWise. Calvin
welcomes LifeWise Academy to our facilities. On Wednesday the Kluckhohn 5th graders are bused over
and on Thursday the Franklin 5th graders walk to the church.
