This Week at Calvin

Calvin Christian Reformed Church at 326 7th St SE observes the Fourth Sunday of Advent Sunday, December 22nd. Our worship service begins at 10:15 AM. The fourth candle on the Advent wreath is called the Angels' Candle. It reminds us of the hope fulfilled in the first coming of our Savior and of our continuing hope as we anticipate his coming again. As believers in a second Advent,, we too are filled with hope that what the Scriptures have said about Jesus is true and that one day we will witness his coming again. The Steve and Kathy Ver Mulm family will be reading and lighting all 4 candles this week.
This week we will be treated to a prelude and offertory by Derek Hwang on cello accompanied by Angeli Shieh on the piano. They will be playing "Away in A Manger" with "Amazing Grace" and "What Child is This" for worship music. The All For Him praise band will accompany the singing of "Shout To the Lord", "One Small Child", "Jesus Messiah", "Hope Was Born This Night" and "Emmanuel".
Pastor Rev. Dr. Nevada DeLapp will be preaching on the text of Revelation 12 this week.
The Greeters this week are Pete & Mary Attema, Coffee Servers - Gary & Glenda Habben, Usher - Lynda Bulthuis, and the Nursery will be supervised by Glenda Habben. Power Point is set up and run by Jeremy Kamp.
Christmas Eve, December 25, at 5:30 PM, Calvin will gather together to worship God and to ponder the mystery of the Nativity, the birth of Jesus. So as we sing and pray together and read of Christ's Nativity, let us pray for God to open our hearts and minds to the wonder of it all and to send us out with a fresh sense of what this means for those of us who are called in Jesus' name. Jennifer Van Leeuwen, flautist who grew up in Calvin, will add melody and obbligato to the traditional Christmas carols sung by all and accompanied by Miriam Hector on the piano and organ. Lynda Bulthuis will solo on "Gesu Bambino" accompanied by Angeli Sheih on the piano.
Children and grandchildren of the congregation will be dressing up as the Nativity Story during the reading of Luke 2: 1-14 and Matthew 2: 1-15.
The Advent Wreath becomes complete with the lighting of the Christ Candle. From there we all join in the light of our Lord and Savior and pass it to all around us as we circle the sanctuary. The beautiful "Silent Night" is sung during the Candlelighting. Join us then in heralding this Good News as we Go Tell It On the Mountain!
Past services can be heard on Calvin's website at calvincrclemars.org.
