This Week at Calvin
At Calvin Christian Reformed Church we celebrate the Third Sunday of Advent on December 15. Worship begins at 10:15 AM with a prelude by Miriam Hector on the organ and Jill Bomgaars on the euphonium. They will play an arrangement of "O Come, All You Faithful" together to bring all into the spirit of worship. Our Advent candle lighting: Angels, Help us to adore Him theme is continued this week. The third candle on the Advent wreath is called the Shepherds' Candle. The shepherds were the first in a long line of people who joyfully shared the good news of the Savior's birth as found in Luke 2: 8 - 12.
As believers in the second Advent, we too are filled with tremendous joy in the good news that Jesus is our Savior. He is the Lamb who was slain so we can have freedom to live as God intended. We anticipate the day when we will be totally liberated from our sin and worship him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, even as the angels do today. This week's Advent readings will be read by Dr. Tom and Ina Bjorge. In response the congregation will sing "Alleluia" and "Joy to the World" accompanied by organ and euphonium.
The offertory will be another duet on the tune ""Once in Royal David's City".
Pastor Rev. Dr. Nevada DeLapp will read the Gospel text from Luke 3: 7 - 18. The Gospel Hymn will be "With Joy I Heard My Friends Exclaim". Pastor's text for his sermon comes from Revelation 8: 6 - 9: 21. Communion follows the sermon. All who have been baptized, are truly sorry for their sins, who sincerely believe in the Lord Jesus as their Savior, and who desire to live in obedience to Him are invited to come with gladness to the table of our Lord this morning. As is tradition, Calvin members are reminded to bring items for the Christian Needs Center in Le Mars on communion Sundays. Please deposit these goods in the blue barrel located in the narthex.
Jill and Miriam will be playing background music as the congregation "Comes to the Table" to participate in communion.
In response to communion we all join the singing for "My Soul Cries Out with a Joyful Shout" as we are sent in the hope of Christ's second coming.
The postlude will be "Good Christian People Rejoice" another euphonium/organ duet.
Jill Bomgaars is a friend of Calvin. She lives in Le Mars and teaches Spanish at LCHS.. We are so grateful for her sharing of her beautiful euphonium music. Thanks Jill.
This week's Greeters are Anna Mae Koerselman and Steve Ver Mulm, the Coffee Servers John & Mary Van Hill, the Usher is John Klocksiem, nursery is Helen De Stigter and Sound system is Bruce Smit and Power Point - Jeremy Kamp. We are so grateful for all these volunteers who work behind the scenes for all.
At 9:00 AM are Education Classes for ages 4 - Adult in the Fellowship Hall. Join us in these opportunities to promote a growing relationship with Christ.
This Sunday at 3:00 PM Calvin members will be caroling at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home and then on to Accura Health. Come join us as we spread Christmas cheer to those who cannot otherwise attend a church worship service. Following the goodwill we will gather back at Calvin for soup, taverns and ice cream sundaes and good fellowship.
Mark your calendars for Calvin's Christmas Eve service at 5:00 PM on December 24th. The service will be Singing The Nativity Story. We will sing and pray together and read of Christ's Nativity. All concludes with the traditional Candlelighting service where as we receive the light from the Christ's Candle, we will pass that light to all around us as we sing "Silent Night." Come and join us in this reflective time for Jesus coming to earth as a Babe to live among us and saves us.
Calvin invites all to join us in this beautiful time of the year to come again to His presence and worship Him. We are located at 326 7th St SE or on the web at calvincrclemars.org for past services.
