This Week at Calvin

Angels, help us to ADORE Him. The Advent series Calvin Christian Reformed Church has planned for December focusses on how angels model worship in both the Nativity and in Revelation. Last week we lit the prophecy Candle, remembering those who spoke of the promise of the coming of the Christ Child and those who spoke of the promise of the Christ-King. On December 8th, the second candle on the Advent wreath is called the Bethlehem Candle. It is a symbol of the preparations being made to receive and cradle the Christ Child. Long ago, an angel appeared to Mary and brought the message that she had found favor with God. As Advent believers we, too, are preparing for the coming of Jesus, the one who sits on the throne where our worship is perfected. Mary and Jerry Reed will be reading the script and lighting this week's Bethlehem Candle.
Pastor Rev. Dr. Nevada DeLapp has chosen Revelation 8: 1 - 5 for the text of this Sunday's sermon. Advent songs accompanied by the All for Him band will be: "Might To Save", "Spirit of God, Who Dwells Within My Heart", "You Are Holy (Prince of Peace)", and "Sing To the King". Mandy Viet will lead all into a spirit of worship this Sunday with a Prelude and Offertory. We thank her for leading us in worship. Other band members include Jim Viet on bass, Bruce Smit on drums, Bob Hughes and Ron De Kok on acoustic guitars, Mandy Viet on keyboard. Singers include Patrick Visscher, Steve Ver Mulm and Lyn Bulthuis.

This Sunday Carol Wolfswinkel will be the Greeter, Ina Bjorge a& June Vos will be the coffee servers, Mike Van Otterloo will be the usher, Karin DeLapp in the Nursery and Jeremy Kamp on the sound system and Power Point.

Wednesday, December 11th, the Evening Women's Bible Study will have their Christmas gathering at La Fiesta Restaurant at 6:30 PM.
On December 15, Calvin will be caroling at the nursing homes in town at 3:00 PM. Soup, sandwiches and ice cream will be provided following the caroling. Plan to attend.
Looking ahead, Calvin plans to have their traditional Candlelighting Service on Christmas Eve at 5:30 PM. At this service we will be singing the nativity story along with the children of the congregation modeling the characters of the story. All ends when all participants circle the sanctuary in the singing of "Silent Night" and candles are lit from the Christ Candle and the light is passed to each person in attendance. You don't want to miss this beautiful event.
Calvin invites anyone looking for a church home to join this family in worship and fellowship. Our building is located at 326 7th St SE or on the web at www.calvincrclemars.org.
