This Week at Calvin

Calvin Church is planning a traditional Palm Sunday service this Sunday, March 25 at 10:15 AM.  All will be led into worship with the familiar prelude "Open the Gates of the Temple" played by Miriam Hector.  After the Call to Worship the All For Him Band will lead the singing of "Hosanna (Praise is Rising) while the children, young people and adults process into the sanctuary waving palms just as was done when Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday many years ago.  We will then be lead into a Prayer of Confession, Assurance of Pardon and Mutual Greeting.  The trumpet will lead the singing of "All Glory Laud and Honor" played by Patrick Vissicher and the organ.  The Reading of Zechariah 9: 1 - 17 "The Coming of Zion's King" will be read by Mary Fedders.  Psalm 118: 1 - 2, 19 - 29, a procession into the temple gates will be read responsively by Pastor and the congregation.  The Gospel reading is from Mark 11: 1 - 11, the triumphal Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem will be read by Pastor Nevada with the singing of "All Hail King Jesus" sung before and after the reading.  Pastor Rev. Dr. Nevada De Lapp's message is on "Palm Sunday through Zechariah 9".  .  The Song of Response is "Lift Up the Gates Eternal."  During the offertory Miriam Hector will play an old favorite "I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked" on the grand piano.
 
Sunday School classes for all ages will begin at 9:00 AM.   Pastor is using the movie "Godspeed" in the Adult Class with video and discussion.  Kaitlyn Visscher teaches the elementary children and Jaclyn Ver Mulm the Young People.
 
Good Friday, March 30th, Calvin will have a Tenebrae Service at 6:30 PM.  Tenebrae traces the story of Christ's journey to the cross, his suffering an death.  There will be 7 readers interspersed with the singing.
 
On Easter morning, April 1, an Easter Celebration Breakfast will be served at 9:00 AM of egg casserole, fruit juice and rolls.
 
 At 10:15 AM A Service of Word and Song with festive music, the retelling of the resurrection story from the gospels that focuses on hope and victory.  It will conclude with a commission to serve with joy.  Please make plans to worship together with Christians around the world on this day that death is defeated.
 
Easter afternoon at 5:00 PM Calvin's All For Him band has been invited to Calvary CRC to join three CRC churches in Orange City for a combined service.  
 
We are looking forward to the Youth for Christ Annual Banquet on March 26th.  Two tables have been reserved, please contact Elaine Van Otterloo to hear how this great organization helps our young people.
