This Week at Calvin

Calvin Christian Reformed Church, on the corner of 7th St SE and 4th Ave SE, seeks to provide meaningful, stimulating educational and discipleship opportunities to promote a growing relationship with Christ. Education Classes begin at 9:00 AM each Sunday. Sharon Zomermaand teaches our little ones that Jesus loves them through many wonderful stories in the Bible. Cass Martin, a theology major at Dordt University, is leading the young people Sunday School on the 7 Deadly Sins. Pastor Rev. Dr. Nevada DeLapp begins a new Sunday School series on worship. Have you ever wondered what Christian worship is all about and why we do the things we do? We will talk about the basics of worship in history, and much more! Invite a friend. Coffee is always brewing and ready to sip when you arrive.

This Saturday, October 19th, the Women's Ministry will participate in the Fall Shop Hop. They will shop about a dozen stores in Alton an Orange City. A sign-up sheet is in the narthex. Come enjoy this time together.

At worship time - 10:15 AM, Calvin will celebrate Communion. Our policy states: "All who have been baptized, are truly sorry for their sins, who sincerely believe in the Lord Jesus as their Savior, and who desire to live in obedience to Him are invited to come with gladness to the table of our Lord this morning." As has become our custom, everyone is encouraged to bring items for the Christian Needs Center in Le Mars. Their needs include: soup, juice, hamburger helper, tuna, cereal, pork & beans, chili beans, corn, fruit, oatmeal,, ketchup, granola bars, pancake mix, syrup, toilet tissue, shampoo and toothpaste. This week's Special Offering is designated for the Christian Needs Center, as well.

Miriam Hector will lead all into a spirit of worship with a prelude on the grand piano accompanied by an orchestral CD on the song made famous by George Beverly Shea, "I'd Rather Have Jesus." Other hymns to be sung are "Your Name", "Come, Christians Join to Sing" and "Jesus Loves Me." For the offertory Miriam will accompany Kari Swanson, granddaughter of Dr. Tom and Ina Bjorge in the singing of "Tis So Sweet To Trust in Jesus." Kari will sing this solo and play the interludes on the violin. Kari Swanson is a sophomore studying at Wheaton College Conservatory of Music, Wheaton, Illinois.
Pastor DeLapp will conclude his series of sermons on the Old Testament book of Hosea. This week's sermon focuses on Hosea 13: 16. This is a very troubling passage. However, we are assured that Jesus will speak on their behalf in the light of the face of Jesus. Other scripture readings will be Genesis 22: 1 - 19 read by Greg Smidt. The Gospel reading comes from Luke 18: 15 - 17 read by the Pastor.

Greeters this Sunday are John & Judy Klocksiem, Coffee Servers are Fred & Glenda Vollink, Usher is Fred Vollink, Nursery supervised by Helen De Stigter, Sound System and Power Point run by Jeremy Kamp. Thank you all for ministering to others through caring relationships.

The Election Night Soup Supper is fast approaching. The whole church comes together to prepare and serve a delicious meal of homemade soups, taverns, pig-in-the blankets and variety of desserts. Carry out meals are available. Election Night is November 5th and serving is from 5 - 7 PM in the church basement. This year we are excited to announce we have a chair lift for anyone that is in need of assistance to the lower level.

Next week Wednesday is the Evening Bible Study on Joshua. Laura Grigsby leads this discussion on Lesson 3. We hope to see you there!
