This Week At Calvin

Calvin Church's Praise Band Fest is now history.  We were able to have all 3 bands:  Calvin's All For Him, St. John's Lutheran People of Praise and Jill Miller, along with Tim Horken and David Bligh led the singing and praise.  People ventured out in the beautiful, white snow.  People from all faiths lifting up their voices together in praise to one Triune God.  It was described as a "fun evening" raising funds for Hope Haven's International Wheelchair Ministry.  A total of $1,687.00 was raised.  PRAISE THE LORD for such a great outpouring of love for people who have never walked or moved by themselves.
This Sunday we have guest pastor Pastor Verlyn Schapp filling our pulpit. He is now retired from the Friendship Church in Sergeant Bluff where he and his wife, Carol still live. He is focusing on the text from Matthew 11: 25, 22: 34 - 38.  This points to the purpose of our life is to love God,, love our neighbor and make disciples.  The hymns "O Worship the King", "How Great is Our God', "You Shall Love the Lord", "My Jesus I Love Thee", and "Lead Me, Guide Me" will be sung throughout the service.  Miriam Hector will provide service music this week on the grand piano and organ.  Angeli Shieh, a foreign exchange student living with Steve and Kathy Ver Mulm, will play "The Lord's Prayer" as a piano solo for the offertory.
Sunday School classes for all ages will begin at 9:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall.  Join us in this time of meaningful educational opportunities to promote a growing relationship with Christ.
This Sunday the Greeters are Dave Hector and Carol Wolfswinkel, Coffee Servers - Ina Jorge and June Vos, Usher - John Klocksiem, Nursery - Glenda Habben, Sound System - Bruce Smit and Power Point - Jeremy Kamp.
During the week on Wednesday Evening at 6:30 a Women's Group meets.  They are studying a book from In The Middle of the Mess by Sheila Walsh.  The lesson this week is titled "Brokenness Is Hard - Honest Prayer and Grief.  This is based on Matthew 11:30 "For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light".  A short video is played with Sheila Walsh introducing us to the lesson.  We then discuss her points based on God's Word.  Come and join this encouraging group of women as they gather around to lift each other up in their personal relationship with Christ. Laura Grigsby serves as our facilitator.
Next month Calvin will be running a route for Meals On Wheels.  We are looking forward to serving warm meals to those in our town.
