This Week at Calvin

Calvin Christian Reformed Church provides educational opportunities for all ages.  Sunday School classes begin at 9:00 AM on Sunday morning with elementary children meeting with Sharon Zomermaand.  Pastor De Lapp instructs the young people in the truths of the Heidelburg Catechism.  An Adult Class just started a video series on "The Mission of God's People".  During the week there are two Women's Bible Studies that you may choose from.  The 1st and 3rd Wednesdays is the Afternoon Study meeting at 1:30 PM.  They just started a Stonecroft study on the Holy Spirit.  The 2nd and 4th Wednesdays is the Evening Bible Study meeting at 6:30 PM.  They are finishing up a study on "I Am Free".  A new study will be announced in February.  All studies provide time to connect with prayer concerns, deep Bible study, and fellowship.  Calvin's mission is to "provide meaningful, stimulating educational and discipleship opportunities to promote a growing relationship with Christ."
This Sunday's Worship service, which always begins at 10:15 AM, welcomes the Hwang Brothers from the Dakota Dunes to play the prelude and offertory on their violin and cello.   Robert Jr is home from Columbia University on semester break.  Derek is a student at North High in Sioux City.  Their music is always played with much passion and precision. They have chosen to play "Be Still My Soul" for the prelude and "Abide With Me" for the offertory.   Calvin welcomes them with open arms and thanks them for blessing us with this special music.
The All for Him band will be accompanying and leading the singing of the praise and worship.  The songs selected this week are "Hope of the Nations", "The River", "Speak, O Lord" and "As Moses Raises the Serpent Up".  Patrick Vissicher, Steve Ver Mulm, Mary Fedders, and Lyn Bulthuis sing with band members Bruce Smit on drums, Bob Hughes and Ron De Kok on guitars, Jim Viet on bass guitar and Miriam Hector on keyboard.
The scripture readings for this week are Isaiah 43: 1-7 read by Robert Jr. Hwang, Psalm 29 read responsively with Pastor and the congregation, Acts 8: 14 - 17 read by Derek Hwang and the Gospel reading Luke 3: 15 - 22 read by Pastor Rev. Dr. Nevada DeLapp.  The Luke passage will also be the text for Pastor's sermon on the Baptism of Jesus.
Other servers this week include the Dave Hector and Carol Wolfswinkel as Greeters; Fred and Glenda Vollink as Coffee Servers; Dave Hector as Usher; Glenda Habben as Nursery; Bruce Smit on the Sound System; ad Jeremy Kamp on Power Point.
Mark your calendars for the 15th Annual Praise Band Fest to be held on Sunday, February 17th at 5:00 PM.
