This Week at Calvin

Calvin Church looks to end the calendar year with a beautiful service of thanking God for being with us and providing for us through out this year and as we anticipate the coming year.
Alyssa Grigsby will accompany the service on the grand piano as she plays the prelude, offertory and accompanies the hymns.  The hymns chosen for this time of year will be "O God Our Help In Ages Past", "Another Year is Dawning" and "Great is Thy Faithfulness".  John Peterson will read the Old Testament Lesson from 1 Samuel 2: 18 - 20, 26.  Psalm 148 will be read responsively by the Pastor and the congregation. The New Testament Lesson form Colossians 3: 12 - 17 will be read by Jaclyn Ver Mulm.  The Gospel Lesson from Luke 2: 41-52 will be read by Rev. Dr. Nevada DeLapp from the center of the congregation signifying that Jesus came down to earth to be among his people.  This text will also serve as Pastor DeLapp's sermon text.  The  familiar song "Ancient Words" will be sung before and after the Gospel reading.
This Sunday Lynda Bulthuis is celebrating her 70th birthday with Calvin Church.  She is so thankful for 70 years of life and thankful for her church family.  For the Closing Song Lyn will sing the solo "Bless This House" as her note of thanks to all for surrounding her with love. Following the service, she will be providing cake, punch and coffee for all in the Fellowship Hall.  Join Lyn and her family in this celebration of life.
Greeters this week will be Tom & Joyce De Koster, Coffee Servers - Ina Bjorge & June Vos, Usher - Mike Van Otterloo, Nursery - Cindy De Vos, Sound System Jeremy Kamp and Power Point - Jeremy Kamp.
Sunday School Classes for all ages will resume next year on January 6th.
The Afternoon Women's Bible study will begin the new year with a new Bible Study on "Who Is The Holy Spirit?" This is made available through  Stonecroft Bible Studies.  These women meet on Wednesday, January 2nd at 1:30 PM in the church basement.  Anyone interested in this Guide to the Holy Spirit are welcomed to join.   We share prayer concerns, offer prayer, study the Word and conclude with a dessert and coffee.  Doesn't that sound inviting?
Calvin Church is located on 4th Ave SE, the church with the new digital sign or on the web at for past services.
