This Week At Calvin
Calvin Church decided to base our Advent worship on the theme of Christmas carols. Our Advent readings include parts of the stanzas from the carol chosen each week, related Scripture passages, and the overall theme of the carol. This week we have chosen the very loved carol "Joy To the World". This well-known Christmas hymn calls upon all of creation to make a joyful noise before God, for the Lord has come to judge the earth and restore his creation. We are reminded that Christ has come, and he will come again. He will reign as King, and all nations will show forth "the glories of his righteousness and the wonders of his love" as written by Isaac Watts.
The All For Him praise band will lead and accompany the singing of "Joy to the World", "Arise, Shine for Your Light Has Come", "Hope Was Born This Night" and "You Are Holy (Prince of Peace). Miriam Hector will be leading all into a spirit of worship with a prelude on the grand piano. The offertory will be a recording of the LCHS Choir singing Dona Nobis Pacem.
Pastor Nevada De Lapp will focus his sermon on a passage from the Gospel of Luke - Luke 3: 1 - 6.The Old Testament reading is from Malachi 3: 1 - 4and will be read by Mary Fedders.
We are so thankful for all the volunteers that are seen in front and behind the scenes to assure that all will experience the joy of God's life changing love at Calvin. The Greeters will be Anna Mae Koerselman and Steve Ver Mulm, Coffee Servers - Gary and Glenda Habben, Usher- Dave Hector, Nursery - Elaine Zomermaand, Sound System and PowerPoint - Jeremy Kamp. All For Him singers are Patrick Visscher, Steve Ver Mulm, Mary Fedders, Lyn Bulthuis. Instrumentalists are Bruce Smit, Bob Hughes, Ron De Kok, Jim Viet and Miriam Hector.
