This Week at Calvin
Calvin Christian Reformed Church from Le Mars, Iowa, continues the Thanksgiving spirit. We are so thankful for the 150 Operation Christmas Child boxes that were filled by Calvin people, community members and community businesses. Tom and Joyce De Koster said that "they were brought to the next destination at Sioux Center. From there they will be going to a Sioux Falls processing place, then to Denver to be dispersed to a designated country for the children/families." Please be in prayer for God to prepare the hearts of the children who receive shoebox gifts to respond to the message of Christ's love. Ask God to bless international volunteers who host outreach events and teach The Greatest Journey discipleship classes.
Also in this time of Thanksgiving and in the spirit of Christmas the Calvin Council has approved the adoption of a local family to help with their Christmas this year. A gift tree is in the foyer. Select an envelope, purchase the gift, and wrap it up for Christmas. Thank you for your love of giving!
Our Women's Ministry is sponsoring a Calvin Shut-in Christmas Shoe Box. We are asking for your help to fill them up with things they could use or may enjoy getting. Perhaps a note/Christmas care would be another idea. Boxes in the narthex will be at church until December 2nd, when we will be delivering them. Thank you in advance for helping us make their Christmas special.
This Sunday Reverend John Kok, from Dordt College will be leading Calvin's service at 10:15 AM. He chose 1 Samuel 1:4 - 20, 2: 1 - 10 to base his morning message. He titles it "The Audacity of Hope." "Bless the Lord, O Saints and Servants" will be sung in response to his message. Miriam Hector will lead all worshipers into a spirit of worship with a prelude on the grand piano. The All For Him praise band will accompany the singing of several Thanksgiving songs. They will be "Forever', "Worthy is the Lamb", "Forever Reign", and "When It's All Been Said and Done."
We invite everyone to attend the Hope Haven International Ministries concert "Rejoice!" featuring Nashville recording artist Jill Miller on Thursday, November 29 at 7:00 PM at the BJ Haan Auditorium on the campus of Dordt University in Sioux Center. Tickets are $15.00 and can be purchased at Iowa State Bank in Orange City, Orange City, Rock Valley, and Sioux Center Christian Schools. Proceeds will go towards funding wheelchair sponsorships for an upcoming distribution trip to Vietnam in 2019.
World Renew and the CRC Office of Social Justice have joined to help us prepare Our Hearts for Christmas. Starting December 3, they will distribute free email devotionals during Advent in 2018. They suggest "Don't let Christmas presents overtake the Christmas Presence." Sign up to receive reflections on this year's theme, Holy Impatience, every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday through Christmas Day. The series will explore doing justice in a world that belongs to God, a world where so many are both celebrating glimpses of the kingdom and eagerly yearning for it. Go to crcna.org/advent to sing up today!
Calvin invites you to their services, opportunities to grow in God's love, and become a part of the family of God. We are located at 326 7th St SE or on the web at calvincrclemars.org. You are always welcome!
