This Week at Calvin
Calvin Church is thankful for all the great things God has done for us. We especially thank Him for giving His one and only Son to die for our sins so that we may have Eternal Life.
This Sunday Calvin will celebrate communion as we gather around the Lord's Table and partake of the symbols of his body and blood shed on the cross for our sins. As we remember what He did for us, Calvin members are invited to contribute to the Christian Needs Center. This month's needs are rice, canned vegetables, canned fruit, jello, soup, and bar soap. These items may be place in the blue barrel in the narthex. During the worship service at 10:15 a special offering will be taken for the Christian Needs Center.
The morning service will begin with Alyssa Grigsby playing the prelude on the grand piano. She will also accompany the hymns "Come Thou Fount", our Prayer of Confession "Not What My Hands Have Done", ""Praise to the Lord, the Almighty" and "O God You Are My God". Ina Bjorge will read the Old Testament lesson from 1 Kings 17: 8 - 16. Psalm 119: 1 - 8 will be read responsively. Hebrews 9: 24 - 28 will be read by John Peterson. The Gospel Lesson from Mark 12: 35 - 37 will be read by Pastor Rev. Dr. Nevada De Lapp. His message will be based on this passage from Mark emphasizing that Jesus delights us with his teaching. During the distribution of the elements of communion Alyssa Grigsby will play beautiful music on the organ.
Sunday School Classes for all ages is held at 9:00 am. The children are taught by Sharon Zomermaand, the youth learning the meaning of the Heidelburg Catechism by Pastor De Lapp and the Adults continuing the video series on "How to Read the Bible For All It's Worth."
The Women's Ministry is sponsoring a Calvin Shut-in Christmas Shoe Box. Decorated boxes are lying on the back shelf in the narthex with each person's name (members of Calvin in nursing homes or confined to their own homes) on them. We are asking for your help to fill them up with things they could use or may enjoy getting. Perhaps a note/Christmas card would be another idea. These will be there until December 2nd, when they will be delivered to them. Thank you in advance for helping us make their Christmas special!
Sunday afternoon Calvin is participating in the Community Ecumenical Service at 4:00 PM at the United Methodist Church of Le Mars. The service will include scripture, song,, and a time to share personal stories of thanksgiving. Following worship, all are invited to a time of fellowship.
At 5:30 PM that same day, Calvin will be hosting their Thanksgiving Banquet filled with lots of good food, fellowship and laughter.
Wednesday, November 21st at 6:30, a Thanksgiving Worship Service will be held at Calvin. Please join us if you do not have a church to attend that evening. The service is titled "I THANK my God". Sherwyn Bolkema will lead us in traditional Thanksgiving Hymns, Scripture, Prayers and a short Meditation based on Phillipians 1: 1-11. Miriam Hector will accompany the singing on the grand piano.
Calvin Church invites you to join us in any or all of these expressions of worship of our loving God. Our church building is located along 4th Ave SE with the new digital sign. Our website is www.calvincrclemars.org.
