This Week at Calvin

As we move our clocks back one hour this Sunday morning, we take advantage of the extra hour to prepare our hearts for worshipping our Almighty God.  Education classes for all ages begin at 9:00 a.m. Worship follows at 10:15 a.m.  There is always plenty of time before and between each to fellowship with one another and to welcome new people each week.
At Calvin Church this week we welcome Miss Jill Bomgaars, Spanish teacher at LCHS, to provide worship music for us.  Jill is a past All-Stater on the euphonium.  She is actively playing in the Cherokee Symphony, orchestra pit for high school musical plus providing worship music in her home church Bethel Reformed from Sheldon.  Jill has prepared "Amazing Grace" and "Abide With Me" for the prelude and offertory.  She will also accompany the hymns for congregational singing with Miriam Hector on the organ.  We are thrilled she will share her musical talent with us.
These hymns include "Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee", "Holy, Holy, Holy", "My Jesus I Love Thee" and "O, How I Love Jesus."  This Sunday Pastor Rev. Dr. Nevada De Lapp's sermon will be from the Gospel of Mark 12: 28 - 34 - sometimes Jesus gets ahold of the people you would least expect.  This week's greeters are Pete & Mary Attema, Coffee servers - Ina Bjorge & June Vos, Usher - Dave Hector, Nursery - Troy and Elisa Hughes, Sound System - Steve Ver Mulm and this week will go screenless.  Let's have a throwback week like when we used to sing from the hymnals.
This week we will be getting set up for the Election Night Soup Supper November 6th from 5 - 7 PM.  Homemade soups, desserts, pigs-in-a-blanket and taverns will be served.  Tables are set up in the basement and in the narthex to accommodate those who find steps a challenge.  Tickets for "the best soup supper in town" are Adults - $8.00, Children 5 - 10 -$4.00 and Children 4 years & under - Free.  All the profits from this year's Soup Supper will go to the International Justice Mission, an organization to help erase modern slavery and human trafficking around the world.
Opportunities are still available for those who would like to fill an Operation Christmas Child box.  There are empty boxes in the narthex window.  There is still time to join in this effort to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to  millions of boys and girls around the world.  The return date for filled boxes is by Sunday, November 11.  Please consider being a part of this mission project.
Calvin Church is located at 326 7th St or on the web at wwwcalvincrclemars.org for past services.
