This Week at Calvin

Calvin Church will be celebrating communion this coming Sunday, August 26.  Worship begins at 10:15 AM.  As we prepare for Holy Communion we ask God for the proper spirit in which to celebrate the sacrament that we may repent sincerely of all sin and that by it we shall be spiritually revived, and strengthened in faith hope, and love through Christ our Lord.

Miriam Hector will play the prelude on the grand piano to lead us in a spirit of worship.  Troy Hughes will read the Old Testament lesson from Proverbs 9: 1-6.  The Psalm 34: 9 - 14 will be read responsively.  Bob Hughes will read the Epistle lesson from Ephesians 5: 15 - 20.  Pastor Rev. Dr. Nevada De Lapp reads the Gospel lesson from John 6: 5 - 71 and will use this passage as his sermon text.  The theme of his sermon is Jesus feeds us with his very physical, resurrection life in holy communion.

The All For Him band and singers will lead the singing.   The Greeters will be Tom and Joyce De Koster, Coffee Servers - Fred and Glenda Vollink, Usher - Fred Vollink, Nursery - Cindy De Vos, Sound System and PowerPoint will be Jeremy Kamp.

As is tradition at Calvin on Communion days, members are asked to contribute to the Christian Needs Center.  Their needs for this month are:  canned fruit; canned vegetables (very low on peas, carrots and mixed vegies); mac & cheese, hamburger/tuna helper; and soup.  These items can be placed in the blue barrel in the narthex.  Dave Hector will deliver them later next week.

Following the worship service this Sunday, the Fellowship Committee is planning on serving dinner in the Fellowship Hall.  Meat and potatoes will be provided, please bring a side, dessert, or salad.  Plan on joining us for a time of food and fellowship.

Women's Bible Studies are being planned for the fall.  Some in the afternoon meeting at 1:30 and some in the evening at 6:45.  All are on Wednesdays.  More details will follow, but all are encouraged to engage in meaningful, stimulating educational opportunities to promote a growing relationship with Christ.

Sunday School classes for all ages begin September 10th at 9:00 AM.

The Calvin Church building is located at 326 7th ST  SE, but our people's mission is to serve and reach out to our neighbors .  Past services and sermons can be heard on our church's website www.calvincrclemars.org.
