This Week at Calvin
Vacation Bible School, June 25- 29, 2018: Calvin Church is being transformed into ancient Babylon when Daniel and his friends were in captivity. The sanctuary looks like a palace where Daniel and his friends served the king. The people in ancient Babylon believed in many fake gods, but Daniel and his friends had the courage to stand firm and believe I the one true God. All participants will learn that our one true God is always with us, just as God was with Daniel so long ago. Kids and adults will walk away with the comfort of knowing that God will be with them when things change, when they need help, when they're afraid, when they're lonely and when they're thankful. There will be time for the attendees to meet in their tribes, time to Celebrate with the Bible point and verse for the day and learn songs and actions praising our one true God. Then we will go to the Palace Playground for games, to Daniel's Adventures with Pastor De Lapp portraying Daniel, visit the Marketplace for making crafts. The time will end with a gathering of the Tribe and with the Closing Celebration. The offering for our VBS goes to the charity of Josh's Ride, providing custom bicycles for special children in our community.
VBS runs from June 25 - 29, from 5:30 - 8:15 PM beginning with a meal each night. All children and middle schoolers and teenagers will benefit from attending or helping with VBS.
This Sunday Calvin Church will celebrate Communion. All who are truly sorry for their sis, who sincerely believe in the Lord Jesus as their Savior, and who desire to live in obedience to Him are invited to come with gladness to the table of our Lord this Sunday. Worship begins at 10:15 AM on Sunday. The message this week is from Hebrews 9. Other readings are Exodus 24: 1 - 11 and Psalm 9: 9 - 20. The Gospel on is from Mark 4: 35 - 41.
Miriam Hector will be providing service music on the grand piano. The All For Him band and singers will lead the singing of "We Bow Down", "We Believe", "Behold the Lamb" (during the distribution of communion) and "This is Amazing Grace'.
The Greeter this week is Anna Mae Koerselman, Coffee Servers - Gary and Glenda Habben, Usher - John Klocksiem, Nursery - Glenda Habben, PowerPoint - Jeremy Kamp and Sound System - Mike Feenstra. We thank all who serve.
As is Calvin's tradition when we celebrate Communion, we also collect items for the Christian Needs Center. Their needs are bar soap, cleaning supplies (Windex, Mr. Clean, etc) and dish soap. Items can be placed in the blue barrel in the narthex. Dave Hector will deliver them during the week.
Calvin is also delivering Meals on Wheels the month of July. This is a great way to develop a heart for our neighbors which leads us to serve and reach out to them for Christ.
