This Week at Calvin
Calvin Church is following an Advent series with the theme "Be Not Afraid." We call our Lord and Savior, Emmanuel, God with us. But how often do we live out this Christmas story that the incarnation was for us?
We ask God to enter into our hearts and still them with the words "Be Not Afraid."
This Sunday, December 20, at 10 AM we light the 4th candle of the Advent wreath, the candle of Joy. We fix our eyes on Jesus Christ, who came to earth and took on our humanity, endured the cross and sat down at the right hand of God in heaven. The day is coming when there will be everlasting joy to the world, for our Lord will come! Let all the earth receive her king! "How Great Our Joy", "The Birthday of a King", and "What Can I Give Him?"
Rev. Duane Tinklenburg, retired pastor from Sioux Center will lead worship. His text is Job 9: 25 - 35. His message is "Job Request a Mediator". He will also preside over Communion this Sunday. During the distribution, Patrick Visscher will sing and accompany himself on "He Shall Reign Forevermore" by Chris Tomlin. Following the blessing we will once again join in singing "The Trees of the Field."
As is tradition at Calvin on Communion Sundays, the members are encouraged to bring items for the Christian Needs Center. Many are looking for warm coats & accessories. New or used coats are welcomed. Also warm gloves & hats are needed. These items may be placed in the blue barrel in the narthex.
A Christmas Eve service is planned at 5:00 PM with a choral reading and singing of carols accompanied by piano and organ. All are welcomed to join us. Calvin is located at 326 7th St SE, Le Mars.
